2) Icons and indexes are so important in media texts due to them being something that we understand and can clearly link to what the meaning is and therefore understand the reason for that being there.
3) As symbols may not be as clear as an icon, therefore, there will be confusion which will lead to the symbol being interpretedetted in the wrong way due to it being not as a clear which may cause controversy in an advert.

This media product may have failed due to the racist undertones within the index as well as the symbols. The symbols suggest that the white handheld console will be more popular than the original black version with no reasoning make us question as to why and may lead us to the wrong reading they want us to have. At first sight the symbols are just informing people that Sony is releasing a white PSP, but the index would suggest that Sony are white supremacists as it is a white woman controlling a black male, perhaps suggesting that white people are more dominant than black people, which will be the wrong reading company such as PlayStation will want to be giving to audiences that PlayStation will be calling customers.

The icons in the advert which are the sauce bottle and the spoon indicate to the audience and the public that the company is trying to promote and sell their sauce to them and the producer's intentions are the same so that the company can make as much money as possible. The icons are significant because it tells the audience what the company is trying to sell and it is done quite clearly as it is a simple advert that is trying one thing and that is to sell the mayo sauce.
